Cary, NC (October 4, 2021) – NCFC Academy product Britton Fischer has signed a professional contract with North Carolina FC, the club announced today. The deal is pending league and federation approval.

Fischer, a senior at DH Conley High School in Greenville, NC, has been with the NCFC Academy for two years and joins teammates Cole Frame and Nicholas Holliday in inking a professional contract. The signing of these three young stars represents NCFC’s overall goal of investing in young talent and providing a pathway for players with winning mentalities to continue to make a positive impact on the club’s future success. 

“I’m super excited to get the opportunity to sign with the club,” Britton Fischer said. “I am looking forward to continuing working with the team and excited for what is to come.”

Throughout his playing career, Fischer spent time with the ‘03 PGSA Stars, the NCFC Elite U14, and the ECNL U15 squad before joining the NCFC Pro ECNL U16s. More recently, the 17-year-old transitioned to the NCFC U17 Academy and eventually the U19 Academy before signing an amateur contract with North Carolina FC alongside fourteen of his teammates, making the defender available to train and play for the first team. Fischer is a former recipient of the NCFC Hamilton Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded to players who exemplify sportsmanship on and off the field and has also competed in the USYS National League Regional Playoffs and the ECNL National Playoffs.

This season, Fischer has made twelve appearances for North Carolina FC, making his professional debut on May 23 against the Richmond Kickers as a substitute in the 86th minute. Since his first appearance with the squad, Fischer has clocked 773 total minutes of playing time and been a member of the starting line-up nine times. In six of his twelve appearances, the defender has played the full length of the match, bolstering the NCFC backline against competitors at the professional level.

Two minutes later, Luca Petrasso scored his first goal of the season to double Toronto’s lead, capitalizing on a cross from Kobe Franklin. Franklin’s assist was his second of the night, his first paving the way for Maples’ goal. Later, in the 73rd minute, Paul Rothrock collected Toronto’s third goal of the night to seal the 3-0 win.

When asked about the decision to give the captain’s band to Arriaga, Bradford had high praise for the midfielder: “I’ve been a Luis Arriaga fan for many years, that’s part of the reason he’s here. He leads by example, he is a tireless worker, he keeps going for the entirety of [the game]. He doesn’t speak a lot, but when he does, it carries more weight.”

In the last meeting between these two sides, McLaughlin tallied a hat trick and was subsequently named to USL League One’s Team of the Week for leading his squad to a 4-2 win. With eight goals this season, McLaughlin is one of the league’s top scorers and will look to add to his season goal total in Friday’s match on Toronto’s home pitch. Dominick Hernandez drew first blood in this afternoon’s match, receiving a pass from Caiser Gomes and taking a chance from just inside the eighteen. Burying his shot at the far post and into the lower 90, Hernandez’s goal provided North Texas with a 1-0 advantage late into the first half. Hernandez’s goal would prove the difference for the visitors, as it was the lone goal scored during the contest.

“I thought we found our way and were the better team for the majority of the first half, up until the last five minutes,” said Head Coach John Bradford following the match. “Disappointed with the goal we gave up, I think it was avoidable. Obviously it was a good strike, but our positioning and help defensively [could be improved].”

When asked about the decision to give the captain’s band to Arriaga in this afternoon’s match, Bradford had high praise for the midfielder: “I’ve been a Luis Arriaga fan for many years, that’s part of the reason he’s here. He leads by example, he is a tireless worker, he keeps going for the entirety of [the game]. He doesn’t speak a lot, but when he does, it carries more weight.”

CARY, NC — USL League One announced on Monday the Team of the Week Presented by Cleer Audio for Week 23 of the 2021 regular season, with North Carolina FC midfielder Nazmi Albadawi named Player of the Week after scoring twice in his final professional game before retiring, leading NCFC to a 4-1 win against the New England Revolution II.

After NCFC fell behind early, Albadawi cleverly rounded the goalkeeper to net the equalizer in the 16th minute of the game. He then doubled his tally with a fine strike from outside the penalty area in the second half, giving his side the cushion it needed to go on and secure the three points.

NCFC’s big win sees the side lead all clubs with three players represented in this week’s Team of the Week.

M – Nazmi Albadawi, North Carolina FC: In addition to the pair of goals he scored in his sendoff game, Albadawi completed three dribbles, created two chances, and made 10 recoveries.
