Cary, NC (February 22, 2021)- Young Canadian youth international Malyk Hamilton has signed a contract and will join NCFC for the 2021 season pending league and federation approval. The 21-year-old made two appearances for his country at the U-18 level.
“I am thrilled to welcome Malyk Hamilton to North Carolina FC,” said NCFC head coach John Bradford. “He has a strong playing background at a young age already, as well as an extremely high potential for continued growth. He will fit perfectly into how we would like to play here at North Carolina FC. Also, in many ways, Malyk represents a certain type of player that our club wants to invest minutes, matches, and exposure into, where we feel we can further develop him into a player with an extremely bright future. I’m excited to get started with Malyk and confident that North Carolina FC will play a valuable role in his individual progress.”
Hamilton joins NCFC from Atlético Ottawa of the Canadian Premier League. He signed with the team in March of 2020 and played every minute of their shortened season. The attacking defender provided one assist during the season.
Before his time with Atlético Ottawa, Hamilton played for Canadian Premier League team Cavalry FC in 2019 where he made 18 appearances for a total of 1,275 minutes. In 2018, he briefly played for the USL Championship’s Toronto FC II where he made two appearances. He also made six appearances for Toronto FC III.
In his youth, Hamilton spent eight years in England with West Ham United’s youth academy. He joined the academy at the U-12 level. He made 25 appearances with the U-18 Premier League, scoring one goal and tallying one assist. He also made one appearance in the Premier League 2. While he was developing his game as part of the West Ham United youth academy, Hamilton made his debut with the Canadian U-18 team. He scored a goal in his first appearance with the team in October 2016.
