CARY, N.C. (June 22, 2018)– North Carolina FC’s 2018 USL season continues Saturday, June 23 at 7 p.m. against Louisville City FC in the club’s Pride Night game, which is presented by Credit Suisse. A portion of proceeds from Pride merchandise sales will go to Playing For Pride, a fundraiser started by NCFC’s Austin da Luz that is raising money for Athlete Ally during Pride Month.
The 2017 defending USL Cup Champions will present a tough challenge for NCFC, as the away side is already off to a quick start in 2018. Louisville enters the week with 24 points from its first 12 matches and sits at second place in the USL Eastern Conference standings. In Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, Louisville has advanced to the quarterfinals after a 2-1 win over Nashville SC in a midweek contest on Wednesday.
Louisville’s attack is led by Cameron Lancaster and Ilija Ilic, who have combined for 10 of the team’s 17 goals. On the defensive end, Louisville has earned five clean sheets behind a disciplined backline. NCFC will look to use the friendly confines of Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park to its advantage in another match that is critical for positioning in the playoff race.
The last match at home saw NCFC tally four goals in a big 4-2 win over Ottawa Fury FC. NCFC has regularly shown the ability to score in bunches at home, netting at least three goals on five different occasions this season. The team will once again look to its in-form strikers Daniel Rios and Marios Lomis for the offensive production the team has thrived on.
