CARY, N.C. (Jan. 19, 2018) – The United Soccer League (USL) has announced the 2018 schedule and North Carolina FC will play 34 regular-season matches, highlighted by reignited rivalries against regional opponents from the USL’s Eastern Conference.
“We’re thrilled to have our 2018 schedule,” said North Carolina Football Club President and General Manager Curt Johnson. “It includes matchups against our regional rivals and a lot of traditional opponents. It’ll be great for the fans and we look forward to kicking off on March 17.”
The league’s conference structure will pit NCFC against 15 other teams in the Eastern Conference vying for spots in the USL Cup Playoffs. NCFC will play each team in the East at home and away while also adding additional home matches against Tampa and Charleston and away matches against Charlotte and Richmond to fill out the 34-match schedule.
The regionally-focused schedule will see NCFC faceoff against plenty of rivals, starting with the club’s home opener against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, March 17. The games will flow steadily throughout the summer and fall, highlighted by a home match against defending USL Cup Champions Louisville City FC on Saturday, June 23, a trip to City Stadium and the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, June 30 and a home match against the Charleston Battery on Saturday, Aug. 4.
The club will take part in at least three North Carolina derbies this year with two visits to Charlotte and one home match against the Independence. NCFC will host its rival on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The club will conclude its USL regular season schedule on Saturday, Oct. 13 with a visit to in-state rival Charlotte Independence.
