CARY, N.C. (Aug. 14, 2017) – North Carolina FC (1W-2D-0L, 1st place, 5 points) will continue its growing rivalry with Miami FC (1W-0D-2L, 6th place, 3 points) when it welcomes the NASL Spring Season Champions back to Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming off short turnarounds, as North Carolina FC drew 2-2 with Jacksonville Armada FC and Miami FC defeated the Indy Eleven 3-1 on Aug. 12.
North Carolina FC is undefeated against Miami FC through four meetings this season. NCFC tied Miami in its first two matches before earning a 1-0 win on July 4 and most recently a 3-2 victory on Aug. 5.
The matchup, which began in 2016, has produced a close contest between the squads. Miami held the advantage with the lone win in the series last year before NCFC recently took command of the series history with two-straight wins. Overall, NCFC now leads the series with a record of 2W-4D-1L.
The club will look to continue its hot start to the Fall Season after moving to the top of the NASL Fall Standings on Aug. 5. Both NCFC and Miami FC enter the matchup tied for the most goals scored in the Fall Season with six each. NCFC’s dangerous attacking unit is led by Lance Laing, who scored his seventh league goal of the season on Aug. 12 against Jacksonville.
Players To Watch:
No. 10 Nazmi Albadawi
Albadawi has played every minute of the NASL season so far. The local playmaker has spent most of the season in the middle of the pitch as NCFC’s primary facilitator. He leads the team in chances created with 31, which is good for the fourth most in the league. Look for Albadawi to control the middle of the park and set up NCFC’s attacking chances against a strong Miami FC side.
No. 7 Dylan Mares
Mares’ first year in Miami has been memorable, as the midfielder has already recorded six goals and three assists just past the halfway point of the combined season. Mares is a dangerous distributor and a key piece in Miami’s attack. In addition to his scoring, he’s created 33 chances and completed 85.9 percent of his passes.
Last Time Out:
North Carolina FC was forced to mount a two-goal comeback against Jacksonville after conceding twice in the opening 20 minutes. Dre Fortune and Lance Laing provided the goals for NCFC, as the home team salvaged a point against the Armada.
Coming Up Next:
NCFC will make the cross-country trip to face the San Francisco Deltas on Saturday, Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. at Kezar Stadium. The team will return home on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m. to host the New York Cosmos in another important battle for a postseason playoff spot.
