CARY, N.C. (June 15, 2017) – Following a 100-minute weather delay, North Carolina FC U23 overcame a slow start and dispatched the Carolina Dynamo 3-1 on Thursday night at WakeMed Soccer Park to move to 4-2-2 on the season and up to third place in the South Atlantic standings with 14 points.

The Carolina Dyanmo opened quickly and took the lead in the 12th minute after Jon Bakero scored a solo goal with an impressive finish off the post.

NCFC capitalized on a chance in the 43rd minute to level the match at 1-1. Matt Gianfortone was played in by Drew Murphy and slipped his shot past Dynamo goalkeeper Alec Smir for his second goal of the season.

Immediately following the break, NCFCU23 scored again to take a 2-1 lead. On his first touch of the match, second-half substitute Fernando Castellanos led a break down the field. Castellanos fed Dean Rutherford who passed the ball to an open Ryan Spaulding. The attacker added a cool finish past Smir for his second goal of the year.

In the 57th minute, NCFCU23 took a commanding lead with its third goal of the night. Castellanos started the scoring play once again and fed Rutherford, who collected and finished from close range for the goal. The tally was Rutherford’s team-leading fourth goal of the year.
