CARY, N.C. (June 9, 2017) – North Carolina FC (4W-2D-4L, 14 pts, 4th place) is set to continue its push towards the top of the NASL table with a rematch against the New York Cosmos (4W-4D-2L, 16 pts, 3rdplace) Saturday at 4 p.m. at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
Only three points separates NCFC from sole possession of second place in the league table. The team will look to return to form on the road, where it has picked up three positive results in five matches this season.
The club will also look to reignite its goal-scoring attack. NCFC has tallied 14 goals this season – good for second in the NASL. The club is paced by Lance Laing’s four goals and three assists, while seven players have found the target this season.
The Cosmos enter the match after a 4-2 loss on Wednesday to FC Edmonton, marking its first loss in seven league matches. New York will aim to come back from the loss and extend its unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches against North Carolina, a streak that started during the 2015 season.
Last Time Out:
NCFC suffered a 1-0 defeat against the New York Cosmos last Sunday as Juan Guerra scored in the 52nd minute of play. After conceding the goal, NCFC’s attack made a strong push for an equalizer, but New York escaped with all three points.
Players to Watch:
#10 Nazmi Albadawi
Albadawi has played an instrumental role this season for NCFC as captain, logging ten starts in ten appearances, remaining one of only three players to play every minute of the NASL season. He scored two goals in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against the Charlotte Independence, and has created 15 chances in the regular season.
#4 Carlos Mendes
Mendes helps anchor a Cosmos backline that has earned a league-leading five clean sheets and allowed only 12 goals this season. Individually, Mendes has made five starts in six appearances and has made 26 clearances and five interceptions, while winning 18 duels.
