CARY, N.C. (June 1, 2017) – North Carolina FC will host MLS side Houston Dynamo in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14 at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
North Carolina FC moves on to the fourth round of the Open Cup after defeating the Charlotte Independence 4-1 on May 31 at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. The win marked the second-straight year that NCFC has knocked it’s in-state rivals out of the Open Cup.
NCFC has hosted an MLS opponent in five of the last six years and has prevailed over MLS squads six times in the tournament, with memorable back-to-back-to-back victories over the LA Galaxy from 2012-2014. This year’s matchup will be the 13th time NCFC has faced a MLS opponent in the Open Cup.
The Dynamo currently lead in the MLS Western Conference with a record of 7-5-2, earning key wins over Orlando City and the reigning MLS Champion Seattle Sounders.
The Dynamo roster is highlighted with United States National Team legend DaMarcus Beasley, who has 124 international caps to his credit. Mexican international Erick Torres leads a dangerous Dynamo attack with 10 goals scored this season and a Honduran national team trio of Alberth Elis, Romell Quioto and Boniek García has combined for nine goals and seven assists.
The roster also features local connections with former UNC-Chapel Hill men’s soccer players Tyler Deric and Jalil Anibaba as well as former Duke and Carolina Dynamo standout Andrew Wenger.
