We know most of their players and coaching staff and some of their coaches have been involved with our professional team in the past. Obviously, we’d like to have three points, but we’ve trained three times. I thought our team played well and tried to do what we asked them. I’m happy with their effort.”

North Carolina FC U23 responded to tie the match in the 26th, as Spaulding found the back of the net from a tight angle on the left wing.
In the 40th minute, NCFC U23 took the lead. Spaulding weaved his way through several TRFC defenders in the box before sending a low, hard pass to Dean Rutherford, who provided a collected finish for the goal.
Tobacco Road FC would eventually level the match with a goal against the run of play, as Jon Ray scored off a free kick in the 89th minute. NCFC U23 put together a final attacking chance in stoppage time, but Drew Murphy’s shot from outside the box was deflected away, and the match ended in a draw.
