
CARY, N.C. (May 3, 2017) –North Carolina FC U23 will begin its 2017 Premier Development League (PDL) schedule Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. against Tobacco Road FC. NCFC U23 will play 14 regular-season matches and host all seven of its home matches at WakeMed Soccer Park.
On Feb. 10, the club announced it was joining the PDL for the 2017 season. The team will compete in the regular season against local rivals Carolina Dynamo, Charlotte Eagles, Myrtle Beach Munity, Tobacco Road FC and Wilmington Hammerheads FC in the South Atlantic Division. Following the season opener, NCFC U23 will welcome Wilmington Hammerheads FC on Wednesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. and the Carolina Dynamo on Thursday, May 25 at 7 p.m. to WakeMed Soccer Park.
Season ticket members will receive free admission to all NCFC U23 matches with a valid North Carolina Football Club membership card. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth.
NCFC U23 along with Myrtle Beach Munity, Tobacco Road FC and Wilmington Hammerheads FC are four of five expansion sides in the South Atlantic Division. The division also includes Nashville SC U23, Peachtree City MOBA, SC United Bantams, South Georgia Tormenta FC and Tri-Cities Otters.
In 2016, the Charlotte Eagles claimed the division title, while the Carolina Dynamo and the SC United Bantams also made the playoffs from the division.
The PDL, a part of the United Soccer Leagues which also operates the Division II USL and Super Y League, has proven to be an important steppingstone for top professionals in North America and around the world. The league counts NCFC goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre, defender Steven Miller, midfielder Tiyi Shipalane and forward Brian Shriver among its many alumni who went on to enjoy successful professional careers in soccer.
