Cary, NC (January 19, 2017)- North Carolina FC announced today they have acquired German midfielder Marcel Kandziora. Per club policy, further terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“Marcel is a versatile midfielder who can play several positions and impressed us during a trial last summer,” said North Carolina FC Head Coach Colin Clarke. “He’s young and hungry and will fit in well with our culture as we continue to build a championship roster.”
The 26-year-old came through the youth ranks of TuS Altenberge and storied club Borussia Dortmund of the German Bundesliga.
The Münster, Germany native began his professional career in 2009 with Borussia Dortmund II in the Regionalliga West, the German fourth division. In 2011, he moved to the 2. Bundesliga (Germany’s second division) with SV Sandhausen appearing in 52 games and recording three goals over two seasons.
Following his time at Sandhausen, Kandziora continued to play in the 2. Bundesliga, spending the 2013/14 season with FSV Frankfurt before landing at Vfl Osnabrück where he appeared in 52 games and scored six goals in the last two seasons.
Kandziora will join the team when they convene for preseason training next month.
