Earlier this year, the Carolina RailHawks announced a landmark collaboration with Capital Area Soccer League’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy program. This new relationship covers all of the boys’ Academy (U-13/14, U-15/16, U-17/18) and all the girls’ ECNL teams (U-14 through U-18) under the new name, Capital Area RailHawks. After a month long preseason, the U-17/18 and U-15/16 Capital Area RailHawks Academy teams will open their 2013-14 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Seasons on the road against South Carolina United Battery Academy. The U-13/14 Academy team opened their season last weekend in Charlotte and will journey to Blackbaud Stadium with the older Academy teams on Sunday, September 15th.
“After a long preseason, all the teams are ready to play in highly competitive matches that count,” said Capital Area RailHawks Academy Director John Bradford. “The boys arrived earlier to focus on their strength and conditioning, allowing all teams to play the attack-minded, possession-oriented style we want our teams to be known for.”
The new RailHawks/CASL collaboration has been established with the goal of making the Academy more open to the entire eastern NC soccer community and its players, regardless of their current youth soccer club affiliation. It will also create a more direct platform and pathway for the best young players in NC and beyond to achieve their goal of playing professional soccer, as a result of the new direct participation of the RailHawks professional coaching staff and players in the Academy. “It is fantastic to see the season start for our talented boys and girls teams,” said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. “These players are some of the finest in the country and will represent our community in games and events throughout the United States. I am proud of our new collaboration with CASL and feel we are just scratching the surface of what can be done to enhance the development of players in North Carolina.”
The Capital Area RailHawks ECNL teams compete at the U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-18 age groups and opened their 2013-14 Seasons on September 7th. Four of the ECNL teams captured season-opening victories and will return to league play on Saturday, September 21st when they host FC Virginia. The Elite Clubs National League was established in 2009 to create a true national competitive league with multiple flights, to improve the daily training environment at top female youth clubs, and to improve the process of identifying elite female soccer players.
The matchup between the C.A. RailHawks Academy teams and southern rivals, SC United Battery Academy teams kickoff with the U-13/14 match at 9:00am. The U-17/18 match will begin at 11:30am with the U-15/16’s closing out the day with a 2:00pm kickoff.
The U.S. Soccer Development Academy was created in 2007 with the goal of improving the day-to-day training of the elite youth player. The everyday environment created by the Academy programs is designed to produce the next generation of National Team players and create a scouting network of National Team coaches to identify players and coaches for future Youth National Teams.
