In an exciting announcement from US Soccer, The U13/14 age group has been added to the US Soccer Development Academy (USDA) Program for the upcoming 2013-2014 season. This younger age group is an addition to the existing U15/16 and U17/18 age levels. The U-13/14 Academy program will be based on the same philosophy as the older Academy age groups, which features more training sessions, less games, and more meaningful competition. The addition of the U-13/14 age group provides the country's most motivated and talented youth players with two additional years of intensive training to help them reach their full potential and prepare them for collegiate, professional, and international soccer.
By adding the U13/14 age groups within the Capital Area RailHawks USDA Academy Program, this cements a consistent player development pathway in the Academy from U13 straight through to U18. Also, the Capital Area RailHawks are thrilled to announce that the U13/14 Program will be fully funded for ALL player costs – including training fees, registration costs, coaching fees, travel costs, uniform costs, etc. Specific details of sponsorship information will be released soon.
This move to a cost-free environment, the tangible collaboration with the Carolina RailHawks Professional Team of the NASL, and the highest quality combination of staff, facilities, and overall professionalism, will continue to help reinforce the Capital Area RailHawks Academy Program as the leader in the soccer community of the Triangle, in North Carolina, and on the national scale. The Capital Area RailHawks will provide the only full development pathway from the U13/14 ages to the U15/16 ages to the U17/18 within the USDA Academy level in the triangle area.
“We are extremely excited about incorporating younger players into the Academy environment and exposing them to the most meaningful competition at an earlier age,” said John Bradford, Capital Area RailHawks Academy Director. “Although coaches certainly maintain a large impact on players, there is no replacement for players competing with and against the highest level players in the country on a consistent basis. That is what the USDA has provided at the U15-18 ages since the beginning of the league in 2007 and we are delighted that the league has expanded to the younger ages.”
With the U13/14 age group, the competitive schedule will place a greater emphasis on local games due to the younger ages of the players and will also include a futsal component during the winter.
In addition to the existing 80 clubs that currently compete at the U15/16 and U17/18 levels in the US Soccer Development Academy, US Soccer will be adding satellite clubs located in quality markets across the country, solely at the U13/14 age level. According to US Soccer Development Academy Director of Scouting Tony Lepore, “They (the additional U13/14 clubs) are well located and based in key markets that help to expand the elite player pool in this age group, while incorporating a model that minimizes the amount of travel and costs for league play."
