CARY, N.C. – The Carolina RailHawks announced today the return of defender Kupono Low. Low, a member of the inaugural RailHawks team in 2007, returns for his sixth consecutive season with the club and will look to add to his all-time record of 129 appearances for the RailHawks.
“I am happy to return to Carolina for my sixth season with the club,” said Low. “It is exciting with Colin [Clarke] coming in. He has been very successful wherever he’s coached and he’s someone that players look forward to working with. I look forward to returning to the field in 2012 and work towards bringing home an NASL championship.”
Low has been a mainstay in the RailHawks starting eleven and was member of the North American Soccer League’s Best XI for the 2011 season. The nine-year veteran has controlled the RailHawks record book since he started and scored the RailHawks first goal on April 24, 2007 in a 1 – 1 tie against the Minnesota Thunder. Low ranks in the top ten of the RailHawks record book of six different categories with 129 appearances (1st), 123 starts (1st), 11,145 minutes (1st), 32 points (3rd), 10 assist (4th), and 11 goals (6th).
“Kupono has been a very important part of this organization on and off the field for the past five years and it was important to keep him in a RailHawks jersey,” said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. “Kupono has proven to be a great veteran presence and has performed at an elite level on the field. We are glad to welcome him back for the 2012 season.”
Low and his RailHawks teammates will first take the field at WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday, March 4th in an exhibition match against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer. Tickets to the Vancouver exhibition match and the RailHawks NASL home opener on April 14th can be purchased by signing up for your 2012 Season Tickets or RailHawks Holiday Pack. All-Inclusive season ticket packages start at $119 and Flex Plan ticket packages start as low as $50. The RailHawks Holiday Pack includes tickets and a RailHawks winter fleece and winter hat.
