Greenville, SC (July 10, 2021) – North Carolina FC drew with Greenville Triumph SC, 0-0, on Saturday night at Legacy Early College Field in Greenville, South Carolina. A strong defensive performance from North Carolina prevented Greenville’s prolific offense from creating enough scoring chances. NCFC’s best chances fell to Jay Tee Kamara and Nazmi Albadawi who forced Greenville goalkeeper Paul Christensen into difficult saves.
Veteran star Nazmi Albadawi continued his road to full fitness as he played the entire second half for NCFC in midfield, putting in a strong two-way performance. NCFC goalkeeper, Jake McGuire was able to make some big saves as he picked up his and the team’s third clean sheet on the season. NCFC striker Robert Kristo also featured for the second time since returning from injury, registering his fourth appearance of the season as he replaced Thorn Simpson in the 73rd minute.
NCFC’s best scoring chance came off of a set piece delivery to Thorn Simpson who’s flicked-on header bounced up kindly for Nazmi Albadawi. Albadawi connected the side volley to strike on frame, only to see his attempt saved by Triumph keeper Paul Christensen.
“It was a great feeling to be able to join the boys on the pitch tonight,” NCFC forward Robert Kristo said. “For the team to come into Greenville and take a point is a turning point compared to the last two results against them. That’s five points in the last three games and a good start to an undefeated streak. We are all heading in the right direction and it’s good to have our entire team back as one unit.”
“I am proud of the effort that the guys put into tonight on the field,” Head Coach John Bradford said following the match. “We’re certainly improving and being able to secure a point on the road at a tough place like Greenville is something we’ll certainly build on. We’re looking forward to playing back at home this weekend.”
