CARY, NC (MAY 19, 2016) -The Carolina RailHawks will host Charlotte Independence in the Third Round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at WakeMed Soccer Park on Wednesday, June 1 at 7:30 PM ET. The winner of this match will advance to the fourth round and will host Major League Soccer New England Revolution on June 15.
Charlotte Independence, a member of the United Soccer League, defeated the Charlotte Eagles 2-0 in the second round to earn the match-up against the RailHawks. The RailHawks, who automatically qualified for the third round, will be looking to renew the historic rivalry that has been in place between Charlotte and The Triangle for decades.
The Open Cup/West Ham 3-Pack is on sale now! The three pack includes a ticket to the June 1 game vs. Charlotte, and July 12 game vs. West Ham United, and one game that is to be determined based on US Open Cup performance (with a win vs. Charlotte, the RailHawks will play New England Revolution on June 15 at WakeMed Soccer Park). This is the first opportunity to secure End-line and Premium Sideline seat locations prior to the West Ham public on-sale on Monday, May 23rd. Should the RailHawks only play one US Open Cup game, the ticket for the second Open Cup match will be transferrable to a regular season game in July.

"This game against Charlotte is a massive game for a variety of reasons," RailHawks President Curt Johnson said. "Winning in the U.S. Open Cup has been very important for our organization and beating Charlotte at everything possible is woven into the culture here. We have a growing rivalry and this will be another big chapter."
Four former RailHawks including brothers Alex and Enzo Martinez along with Henry Kalungi and Jun Marques Davidson will be making a return trip to WakeMed Soccer Park playing for the Independence.
This will be the RailHawks’ ninth appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, a knockout style tournament that first began in 1914. The RailHawks have thrived in the past in this tournament, advancing to the semifinals in the 2007 season and to the quarterfinals in the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
A major factor in the RailHawks’ success has been the ability to beat MLS teams in this tournament. They defeated the Chicago Fire in 2007 and the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Carolina will continue NASL action at 4 pm ET on Sunday, May 22 at FC Edmonton. The RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 PM ET to take on Jacksonville Armada FC.
Season ticket holders have tickets to the match between the Carolina RailHawks and Charlotte Independence on June 1 as part of their season ticket package. Season ticket holders must use their GAME C ticket for this match.
