
Three amateur players with ties to North Carolina FC are currently training with the United States Under-18 Men’s National Team for the 2017 Slovakia Cup, running April 24-28. NCFC amateur Jose Carranza and Capital Area Railhawks Academy members Lucas del Rosario and Emanuel Perez were all selected to the national team by U.S. U-18 head coach Omid Namazi.
The players have made an early impact for the team, as Carranza and del Rosario started and Perez came on as a substitute against Hungary on April 24. Carranza provided the assist and Perez scored in the 1-1 draw to open group play.
Perez earned a start in the following match against Belarus on April 25, where the U.S. came back from a goal down to defeat Belarus 2-1.
The U.S. will conclude group play with a match against Slovakia on April 27 before wrapping up the competition on April 28 with an appearance in either the final or consolation bracket, depending on the team’s finish in Group B.
Carranza recently joined NCFC from the Academy team of D.C. United of Major League Soccer. The Manassas, Va. native played for their U-16 and U-18 academy teams, where he started in 20 games throughout the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons.
He made his NCFC debut in an international friendly against Liga MX side Atlas and played 13 minutes in the contest. The midfielder has been a regular for the U.S. youth national teams and he was recently one of only 28 players invited to train at the U-18 Men’s National Team 2017 training camp from Jan. 23-30 in Bradenton, Fla.
Both del Rosario and Perez have starred with the Capital Area Railhawks. Additionally, del Rosario has been with the national team since the U-15 level and Perez has recently joined the national team at the U-18 level. Both players are set to join local collegiate programs in the fall with del Rosario heading to UNC-Chapel Hill and Perez set to join NC State.
