CARY, N.C. (July 25, 2017) – North Carolina FC announced today that it has extended the contract of midfielder Lance Laing to include an option for next season, keeping the prolific goal-scorer in North Carolina through 2018.
“When Lance came in at the start of the year, we knew a lot about him and had seen what he’d done over the years. However, there was still some unknown there,” said NCFC Head Coach Colin Clarke. “Lance has proven over the first half of the season that he still has what it takes. He’s proven to us that what we’ve seen is the real deal. He’s come in and had a great first half of the season. We were lucky enough to sit down with Lance and work out a new and longer deal. It’s beneficial to everyone and I’m delighted.”
The 29-year-old Jamaican immediately became a fan favorite in North Carolina with his attack-minded performances and laser-sharp free kick goals. Overall, he has scored a team-leading six goals and recording three assists.
The three-time NASL Best XI has been named to the League’s Team of the Week four times, earning Player of the Week honors in Week 8 and named to the NASL Team of the Month in May.
Laing and North Carolina FC return to the field this Saturday, July 29, as they host Puerto Rico FC at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and information visit www.NCFCTix.com
