The match had previously been scheduled for Friday, August 6. This match will mark the first of two meetings between NCFC and the Revolution this season, with the teams facing off again on September 11 at 7:00 p.m. ET in Cary, N.C.

Taking the ball in stride, Frame executed a stepover to beat his defender, shifting the ball to his left foot and slipping a shot into the lower right corner of the net to equalize once more for the North Carolina side. The goal was Frame’s second of the season, putting the league on notice at only 18 years old.

Though the result did not go in their favor, it was a night of firsts for the young squad — 17-year-old NCFC Academy product Britton Fischer made his starting lineup debut, Jay Tee Kamara scored his first goal of the season, and seven NCFC Academy players were listed on the 18-man roster. Don Smart and Marios Lomis added a goal apiece for the Triumph. Since NCFC’s last competition with Greenville, veterans Robert Kristo and Nazmi Albadawi have rejoined the lineup, hoping to be difference makers in this weekend’s match.

In the last meeting between the two teams, North Carolina FC came up just short of last year’s League One champions, 2-1. Though the result did not go in their favor, it was a night of firsts for the young squad — 17-year-old NCFC Academy product Britton Fischer made his starting lineup debut, Jay Tee Kamara scored his first goal of the season, and seven NCFC Academy players were listed on the 18-man roster. Don Smart and Marios Lomis added a goal apiece for the Triumph. Since NCFC’s last competition with Greenville, veterans Robert Kristo and Nazmi Albadawi have rejoined the lineup, hoping to be difference makers in this weekend’s match.

Nazmi Albadawi returned to the pitch for the first time since the start of the season in tonight’s match, having been cleared to play this week. The veteran entered the match as a second-half substitute for Pecka, logging 24 minutes of playing time in North Carolina’s ninth match. Robert Kristo and Malyk Hamilton also made their return during tonight’s contest, each returning from injury to rejoin the North Carolina FC lineup. 

“It felt amazing to be back out there with the team. I’ve been watching them battle from the sides and I’m glad I was able to play with them tonight,” captain Nazmi Albadawi shared in a postgame interview. “It wasn’t our best performance overall but every point counts and we got a point on the road away to a tough team.”

In the 80th minute, Tormenta was awarded a penalty kick, a tackle from Max Flick drawing the call late into the match. Tormenta striker Marco Micaletto lined up at the spot to take the kick, missing wide right as Damian Las dove in an attempt to make the save. Micaletto’s missed penalty rendered the 0-0 deadlock throughout the rest of the contest, as the two sides drew and points were shared in Statesboro. Chances from Nelson Flores and Cole Frame highlighted the first half, but inevitably, neither side were able to find the net. 

“I thought the team was asked to do a lot of defending this evening to secure a point on the road and am proud of them to see it out,” Head Coach John Bradford said. “Tormenta makes it difficult with their system by putting tons of crosses and players forward and we did well to keep them out of our goal tonight. Getting Naz and Robby back on the field is a great lift for our group. They will be big pieces of our team going forward and having them return tonight is huge. I thought all of our changes did well this evening. We look forward to continuing earning points, getting better, and moving forward.”

TAMPA, Fla. — USL League One announced on Monday the Team of the Week Presented by Cleer Audio for Week 12 of the 2021 regular season, with North Carolina FC midfielder Jay Tee Kamara named Player of the Week after recording a goal and an assist in the second half of his side’s 2-1 comeback win against the Richmond Kickers on Friday.

With his team trailing by a goal coming out of halftime, the 19-year-old – on loan from the USL Championship’s Louisville City FC – took control of the game. Two minutes into the second half, Kamara whipped in an excellent free kick, which teammate Max Flick headed in for the equalizer. Nine minutes later, Kamara produced a bit of magic to give NCFC the lead, juking his defender to create space before firing an accurate low strike from 20 yards out which snuck inside the post. The performance was key to North Carolina FC picking up its first win as a member of League One.

The Kickers added the first goal of the match, as an initial scoring attempt from a Richmond player ricocheted off of the crossbar and into a swarm of players from both sides. Chaos in the box ensued, as an NCFC defender was able to clear the ball out of the six. Unfortunately for the home squad, the clearance was intercepted inside the eighteen and played back in by Ivan Magalhaes, who found the head of Emiliano Terzaghi. The cross found Terzaghi in at close range, as the midfielder flicked in a header to give Richmond a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute.

CARY, NC (June 25, 2021) – Two second-half goals lifted North Carolina FC to their first win of the season as John Bradford’s team defeated the visiting Richmond Kickers, 2-1. Max Flick and Jay Tee Kamara tallied the pair of goals, each notching their second goal of the season in Friday night’s contest. Emilio Terzaghi scored the lone goal for the Kickers.

“The locker room feels and sounds a little different tonight,” shared head coach John Bradford following the match. “To finally see out a lead and get three points means everything to this group and I couldn’t be happier for them. Our full club project was on display tonight with all professional and academy players giving everything they had to the game. The immediate response in the second half was everything. So happy for this group, and now we have to build on this going forward.”

Max Flick shared Bradford’s sentiments, saying, “It was an incredible feeling to help the team with a goal and get a win for the fans at home. Now we re-focus and prepare to get another three points next weekend at Tormenta.”

The Kickers added the first goal of the match, as an initial scoring attempt from a Richmond player ricocheted off of the crossbar and into a swarm of players from both sides. Chaos in the box ensued, as an NCFC defender was able to clear the ball out of the six. Unfortunately for the home squad, the clearance was intercepted inside the eighteen and played back in by Ivan Magalhaes, who found the head of Emiliano Terzaghi. The cross found Terzaghi in at close range, as the midfielder flicked in a header to give Richmond a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute.

North Carolina FC answered with an equalizer early into the second half, the opportunity arising as NCFC was awarded a free kick for a foul on Cole Frame. Jay Tee Kamara took the kick, lofting a near-perfect ball into the Richmond box. Beating several defenders in an aerial duel, Max Flick buried a header past Richmond goalkeeper Akira Fitzpatrick to deadlock the match at a goal apiece. Flick’s goal was his second in two games, as the defender also tallied a goal in NCFC’s most recent contest against the Chattanooga Red Wolves.
