CARY, N.C. (September 28, 2018) – After picking up six out of a possible nine points on a three-game road swing, North Carolina FC returns home to face the Richmond Kickers on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. 
 
With four games remaining in the regular season, NCFC (11W-11L-8D, 41 points) finds itself right in the thick of a playoff race. Currently, coach Colin Clarke’s group is just two points removed from the eighth seed in the USL’s Eastern Conference, and the upcoming match against the Kickers is a valuable opportunity to add three more points. 
 
The match is the third and final regular-season showdown between the two teams and the first in Cary. 
 
After falling to the Kickers 2-1 in March, NCFC avenged that defeat with a 3-1 triumph in its return to City Stadium in June. 
 
Saturday evening, both Richmond and NCFC will attempt to bounce back from losses on Wednesday. The Kickers are coming off a 4-1 defeat at the hands of FC Cincinnati, the league’s leader in points. NCFC, meanwhile, found itself in a scoreless deadlock with the Charleston Battery for much of the night before the home side pulled away with two stoppage-time goals. 
 
With three games remaining in its campaign, Richmond sits in 15th place in the Eastern Conference with 22 points (6W-21L-4D). Having earned a pair of home draws against the Battery earlier this season, NCFC went down to Charleston Wednesday with hopes of snatching a third consecutive road win after triumphs at Penn FC and Atlanta United 2.

Brian Shriver has a good reason to look forward to Saturday’s match at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park: he’s scored a bunch of goals here. Shriver played for the then-RailHawks from 2012-13 and rejoined the team for another stint from 2016-17. In 2013, Shriver won the NASL Golden Boot with 15 goals, and his 35 goals between league and Open Cup play are the most in club history. This season, Shriver leads the Kickers with seven goals.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Sept. 26, 2018) – North Carolina FC was dealt a 2-0 loss on Wednesday night against the Charleston Battery at MUSC Health Stadium. The region’s deep soccer rivalry added another chapter, as Charleston got the better of NCFC with two stoppage-time goals.
 
Despite the result, NCFC still has everything left to play for. A win over Charlotte on Oct. 13 will clinch the Southern Derby Cup and the side is still just two points away from eighth place – the final playoff spot – with four games left to play.
 
The chances started to fly early and often for both sides in the entertaining contest. NCFC found the woodwork in the opening 10 minutes. After combination play from Zach Steinberger and Donovan Ewolo broke down the Battery defense, Steinberger had an open shot on goal. While the attempt beat the keeper, Steinberger couldn’t keep his shot down, as it smacked off the crossbar and away from danger.
 
Steinberger had another chance in the 16th minute with a penalty kick, but his attempt was well read and saved by Charleston goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky.
 
In the 24th minute, it was Alex Tambakis’ turn to make a play. The goalkeeper showed off his lightning-quick reflexes to turn away Taylor Mueller's header that was bound for the back of the net. 
 
The attacking play began to cool off as the half progressed and the teams entered halftime scoreless.
 
Following the break, NCFC had a flurry of chances early, but a shot from Kyle Bekker was pushed away and a volley from Aaron Guillen flew over the bar.
 
The elusive goal continued to evade NCFC as Ewolo sent a free header just over the bar in the 66th minute and Steven Miller’s long-range shot in the 72nd minute went wide.
 
With time winding down and the game looking set for a 0-0 draw, Charleston snuck by North Carolina FC with two quick goals in added time. The home side took a 1-0 advantage in the 91st minute when Victor Mansaray put a glancing header into the back of the net. Just minutes later, the Battery put any result out of reach for NCFC when Ian Svantesson scored with a shot from outside the box.

 “We are bringing three leagues under one central brand that will uniquely represent the USL’s vision for the future and give rise to local passion in new cities currently without professional soccer. The new brand and logos are inspiring and convey a new direction. They are innovative and modern and tell a story but more importantly, refuse to let others define us. The USL will now be modelled after a tried and respected international structure. One central brand, three leagues: USL Championship – the pinnacle of competition; USL League One – the foundation of professional soccer; and, USL League Two – the Path to Pro.

TAMPA, Fla. (Sept. 25, 2018) – Following his four-goal outburst against Atlanta United 2, North Carolina FC striker Donovan Ewolo has been named the USL Player of the Week for Week 28 of the USL season. The striker was instrumental in NCFC’s 6-1 victory over Atlanta United 2 last weekend, scoring four goals, including a first-half hat trick.
 
The win boosted NCFC’s playoff chances, as the side now sits in ninth place in the league standings, level on points with eighth-place Ottawa Fury FC. NCFC is just one point away from jumping up to seventh place.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (Sept. 21, 2018)– North Carolina FC moved into a playoff position with a dominating 6-1 win over Atlanta United 2 on Friday night at Coolray Field – the club's largest margin of victory this season.
 
With the win, North Carolina FC’s path to the playoffs becomes clearer. NCFC now has 41 points and sits in eighth place in the USL Eastern Conference – the final playoff spot. The side is level on points with seventh-place Ottawa Fury FC and ninth place New York Red Bulls II.
 
NCFC’s attack was in great form and took its first chance to go up 1-0 in the second minute with a goal from Donovan Ewolo. The Cameroonian was unmarked in the box when he directed a Kyle Bekker corner kick into the back of the net.
 
With the assist, Bekker recorded his 11th of 2018, breaking NCFC’s regular-season record for most assists in a single season.
 
Just minutes later, Atlanta United answered back with a long-distance strike. Alessandro Castro unleashed a 20-yard blast and found the top corner of the net for the equalizer.
 
However, it wouldn’t take long for NCFC to score again. From there, the team never looked back, scoring four unanswered goals before the first half ended to cap off one of the most impressive first half showings in club history.
 
In the 16th minute, Ewolo pounced on a poor ball from Atlanta inside the 18-yard box and curled his shot around Atlanta United 2’s Mitch Hildebrandt into the back of the net.
 
Bekker scored the third NCFC goal in the 29th minute, finishing off a brilliant passing sequence assisted by Austin da Luz. 
 
Four minutes later, Ewolo struck again to complete his first-half hat trick. Ewolo finished the chance from inside the six-yard box, after Zach Steinberger set up the attempt.
 
In the 42nd minute, it was Steinberger’s turn to score. The midfielder received a long through ball in space from Steven Miller. Steinberger rounded the goalkeeper with one touch and placed his shot in the back of the net for the team’s fifth goal, setting the halftime score.
 
The second half was mostly quiet until Ewolo notched his fourth goal in the 89th minute off an assist from Dre Fortune. The important result has NCFC in a playoff position for the first time this season.

(September 18, 2018) –Daniel Rios was named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 27 of 2018 season after scoring the lone goal in North Carolina FC’s 1-0 shutout victory at Penn FC over the weekend. With the strike, the Chivas Guadalajara loanee is up to 17 goals scored on the season, good for second place in the USL Golden Boot race.

The team remains in 10th place in the USL Eastern Conference standings and moves to 38 points, just three points away from the eighth and final playoff spot. NCFC has six matches left in the regular season.
 
After Penn FC controlled possession in the opening stretch, a lightning-fast counter attack gave NCFC the 1-0 lead and momentum in the 11th minute. The newly-signed Victor Igbekoyi forced a turnover in Penn FC’s half and served Daniel Rios a perfectly-weighted through ball. The USL’s second-leading goal scorer made the most of the chance and buried his shot at the far post for the opening goal.
 
The duo combined again to find the back of the net right before the halftime whistle, but the offside flag denied NCFC a second goal. 
 
Following the halftime break, a resolute NCFC defense stood tall and limited Penn FC in the final third. The home side only placed one shot on target in the final 45 minutes. 
 
With time winding down, Penn FC had its most dangerous attempt of the game. From the edge of the box, Walter Ramírez whipped a free kick toward to bottom corner of the frame. Despite having his view partially blocked, Tambakis’ placement and reflexes allowed him to stop the shot and end the threat.
 
NCFC played out the remaining minutes to clinch the much-needed victory and move one step closer to the playoffs. The win also marked NCFC’s seventh shutout of the season.
