The club will look to continue its shutout streak and resume its rivalry with Ottawa Fury FC which it had formally faced from 2014-16.
 
While the match presents NCFC with a strong opportunity to move up the USL standings, it could also serve as a major milestone for one of the club’s all-time great players. 
 
Team co-captain Austin da Luz is set to surpass 10,000 minutes played for North Carolina FC. Combined between league play, playoff games and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches, da Luz has played 9,978 minutes heading into the match against Ottawa Fury FC, leaving him just 22 minutes away from passing the historic mark that only five other players in club history have reached. The historic group includes, Kupono Low, Tiyi Shipalane, Connor Tobin, Matt Watson and Nazmi Albadawi.
 
As da Luz eyes another incredible milestone, North Carolina FC will look to extend its 255-minute shutout streak.

North Carolina FCs Late Push Held Back in 0-0 Draw Against Toronto FC II

TORONTO (April 18, 2018)– North Carolina FC battled Toronto FC II to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night at BMO Field to earn its second consecutive shutout of the season.
 
NCFC pushed a hungry Toronto FC II side to the brink in the closing stages of the match. However, the crossbar deflected a late NCFC shot from goal and Angelo Cavalluzzo, Toronto’s goalkeeper, came up with a point-blank save in the final minute of the match to keep the sides level. The draw brings NCFC to four points on the season, while Toronto has earned its first point of the 2018 season with the result.
 
The two sides grinded out a scoreless first half. Both teams combined for 11 first-half shots, but a steady effort from the defenses kept the match scoreless.
 
NCFC’s best chance of the opening half came in the 30th minute when Kyle Bekker pounced on a loose ball at the top of the box. Bekker’s shot seemed bound for the bottom corner, but a last-second deflection from the Toronto defense cleared the threat.
 
The second half continued with a lively end-to-end game. While rarely called upon, Alex Tambakis did well in goal, making four saves, including one from close range to keep the clean sheet. 
 
NCFC increasingly pressured the Toronto goal as the match wore on. Marios Lomis nearly had the match winner in the 89th minute, but his shot careened off the crossbar and away from goal, marking the ninth time that NCFC has hit the frame this season.
 
In the final minute of the match, Bernhard Luxbacher found his way past the Toronto defense and in on goal, but a tight angle, combined with a strong save from Cavalluzzo, ended the threat for Toronto.
 
NCFC has now claimed at least a point from its last two matches and has gone 255 minutes without conceding a goal.

Toronto has one of the youngest squads in the league with no players over 25 years old and nine under 20 years old. Futty Danso Named to USL Team of the Week

TAMPA, Fla. (April 17, 2018)– North Carolina FC defender Futty Danso has been named to the USL Team of the Week for Week 5 of the 2018 season. Danso led NCFC's backline to its first shutout of the season and helped set up the second goal in NCFC’s 2-0 victory over the Charlotte Independence last week.

GK – Andre Rawls, Orange County SC: Rawls posted an eight-save shutout, as Orange County took a 3-0 win on the road against San Antonio FC on Saturday night.
 
D – Tobi Adewole, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC: Adewole scored the late winner in a 1-0 victory against Ottawa Fury FC, while also recording eight clearances and winning all 10 duels and aerial duels.
 
D – Amadou Dia, Phoenix Rising FC: Dia won 14 of 21 duels overall and recorded two tackles, two interceptions and three clearances, as Rising FC took a 1-0 victory on the road against the LA Galaxy II. 
 
D – Futty Danso, North Carolina FC: Danso helped hold the Charlotte Independence to only two shots on goal with 10 clearances and also won 12 of 16 duels and aerial duels during his side’s 2-0 road victory.

NCFC U-23 to Host Open Tryouts

CARY, N.C. (April 16, 2018)– North Carolina FC U-23 (NCFC U-23) of the Premier Development League (PDL) will hold open tryouts on Wednesday, April 25 and Thursday, April 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night on Field 3 at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Tryouts are open to soccer players aged 18 to 23 years old. Head coach Dewan Bader and his staff will evaluate players in advance of the PDL season which begins in May.

Bader, who also serves as assistant coach for the North Carolina FC USL team, guided the U-23s to three consecutive Region III titles (2011-2013) and two National Championships (2011, 2013) while competing in the USASA U-23 Men’s Cup. Joining him will be longtime U-23 coaches Luis Satorra and Rick King, as well as Zack Schilawski.

Under Bader’s guidance, the U-23s have produced several standouts who went on to have successful professional careers including: current NCFC players Futty Danso and Cameron Steele, as well as, Michael Grella, Enzo Martinez, Ike Opara, Zack Schilawski, Brian Shriver, Billy Schuler, Akira Fitzgerald, Nazmi Albadawi, and Conor Donovan.

Registration is $125 and includes a ticket to the North Carolina FC match against Penn FC on Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.

North Carolina FC at Louisville City FC Game Rescheduled

CARY, N.C. (April 16, 2018) – North Carolina FC’s match at Louisville City FC has officially been rescheduled to Oct. 9, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field.

MATTHEWS, N.C. (April 14, 2018)– North Carolina FC battled past the Charlotte Independence 2-0 on Saturday night at the Sportsplex at Matthews to claim its first win of the USL season.
 
In front of a near sellout crowd with a large contingent of traveling NCFC fans, the intense rivalry match created plenty of chances for both teams in an exciting end-to-end game. Goals from Daniel Rios in the 50th minute and Marios Lomis in the 86th minute clinched the result for NCFC.
 
For much of the first half, Daniel Rios found his way behind the Charlotte defense, but the forward couldn’t find the finishing touch on several chances, which left the squads tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
 
However, just five minutes after the break, Rios found the elusive goal to give NCFC the lead. Rios ripped a shot off the post on the initial attempt, but made no mistake on the rebound, tucking away his second goal of the season.
 
In the closing stages of the match, Marios Lomis added an insurance goal, poking home a loose ball in the box for his first career NCFC goal.
 
The lead would hold until the final whistle, as NCFC celebrated its first win of the USL season in front of its traveling fans.
