CARY, N.C. (Aug. 4, 2017) – North Carolina FC (6W-4D-7L, 22 points, 6th place) travels south for a match against Miami FC (11W-3W-3L, 36 points, 1st place) after securing seven points from its last four league contests. The match will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Riccardo Silva Stadium.
 
Despite the difference in the overall table, North Carolina FC has held the advantage in the matchup during the season, winning once and tying twice with the Spring Season Champions. In the last meeting between the two teams, NCFC won 1-0 via a goal from Billy Schuler at home on July 4. Since the league rivalry started in 2016, both teams enter the match with a 1W-4D-1L series record and a goal difference of 0.
 
Miami FC is coming off two consecutive losses, falling to the New York Cosmos on July 29 and to Cincinnati FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Aug. 3. Despite the recent drop in form, Miami boasts a plethora of attacking options and a solid defense. The team has a league-best goal differential of +20.
 
NCFC will look to keep its string of results going after improving its roster for the Fall Season. Following the additions of Danny Barrow and Jonathan Glenn from Jacksonville Armada FC and former NCFC Youth Academy standout D.J. Taylor last week, the team has once again added talent this week with the addition of  Botafogo forward Renan Gorne on loan.

Glenn is one of the newest additions to the NCFC squad via a trade with Jacksonville Armada FC. The target center forward will use his size and finishing capability in the box to reinforce the NCFC attack. He made his NCFC debut last weekend against Puerto Rico FC. Glenn added a new dynamic to the attack and won serval corner kicks and free kicks with his impressive hold up play.
 
#8 Vincenzo Rennella
Rennella will look to carry over his strong form from the NASL Spring Season, as he led the league in goals, assists, and shots.  The French forward’s ten goals and five assists across his 14 starts were a large contribution to Miami FC’s first-place finish in the standings.

NORTH CAROLINA FC BOOSTS ATTACK WITH BOTAFOGO FORWARD RENAN GORNE ON LOAN

CARY, N.C. (August 3, 2017) –  North Carolina FC has added another dangerous attacking option to its roster for the 2017 NASL Fall Season with the addition of Renan Gorne after coming to terms on a loan agreement with Brazilian Série A side Botafogo. Per club policy, further details on the acquisition were not released.
 
“We had an opportunity to get a very good striker. He’s young with good experience,” said NCFC Head Coach Colin Clarke. “He played in the top league in Brazil and had a very successful career scoring goals. He’s someone that wanted to be here and experience our league and culture and we feel that he will come in and score a lot of goals for us this second part of the season.”
 
The 21-year old forward was a star for Botafogo’s U20 side last season. He netted 31 goals with the U20 team and earned a call up to the senior team where he made one appearance. The talented goal scorer will join a growing attacking unit, which will be in search of more goals during NCFC’s Fall Season.
 
“I’m really happy to be a part of North Carolina FC. It’s a pleasure to wear this jersey,” said Gorne. “We have a great chance here to reach the playoffs. I can’t wait to get on the field and help the team earn results.”

UNITED STATES U18 STANDOUT JOSE CARRANZA INKS PROFESSIONAL DEAL WITH NORTH CAROLINA FC

CARY, N.C. (August 1, 2017) – North Carolina FC has locked down the services of midfielder Jose Carranza, signing the teenager to his first professional contract after his breakout Spring Season. Due to club policy, further details on the deal were not released.
 
“We’re delighted that he has decided to join us as a professional and make this his home for the foreseeable future,” said NCFC Head Coach Colin Clarke. “I think we’ll see a lot of exciting things from him on the field. He’s a young player with a very big upside. He has a lot of one-on-one ability to beat players on the dribble. He’s someone that I think has a very bright future in the game.”
 
The club continues to provide emerging talent with a pathway to professional opportunities. Carranza joins D.J. Taylor as the second teenager to sign to a professional contract for NCFC in the last week.
 
“It's very exciting to sign a professional contract. This is something I’ve been working for ever since I could remember,” said Carranza. “I've given up a lot for this sport and I’m very happy to see it pay off a little. I’m excited for what's ahead with NCFC and I believe we can do great things.”
 
The United States U18 National Team member provided a spark for NCFC late in the Spring Season. He recorded a game-winning assist on July 4 against Spring Season Champions Miami FC, and his play earned him NASL Team of the Week honors on July 6. Carranza has totaled six appearances and three starts, while playing 308 minutes.
 
NCFC previously signed Carranza to an amateur contract on March 24. Prior to North Carolina FC, he starred in the D.C. United Academy system and came up through the ranks of the U.S. Youth National Team.

NORTH CAROLINA FC FINDS LATE GOAL TO DRAW 1-1 WITH PUERTO RICO FC

CARY, N.C. (July 29, 2017) – North Carolina FC came back to earn a point at home against Puerto Rico FC in a physical and hard-fought battle at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday night.
 
Matt Fondy provided late-game heroics for NCFC once again, tallying an equalizer in stoppage time via a penalty kick. North Carolina FC has taken points in the last three meetings against Puerto Rico with goals in stoppage time.

“At the end of the day, I’m happy with a point. We didn’t start the game well,” said Head Coach Colin Clarke. “We had more urgency in the second half. We’ve talked a lot over this week about starting this Fall Season well and setting a good tempo.”
 
Fondy immediately caused problems for PRFC’s backline. The forward nearly earned a penalty in the fourth minute and then had a one-on-one attempt at a goal saved by Puerto Rico goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg in the seventh minute.
 
Despite North Carolina’s early pressure, Puerto Rico took advantage of its first chance to take an early 1-0 lead. Jordi Quintilla slotted home a shot from the top of the box via a pass from Yuma, capitalizing on a turnover deep in NCFC’s defending half in the 14th minute.
 
NCFC nearly found its equalizer in the 44th minute. Lance Laing beat his man on the wing, but Fondy’s header at the far post was off target.
 
At the break, Clarke opted for a change of shape with the addition of new signee Jonathan Glenn. Glenn made his attacking presence known early into his debut, winning multiple fouls and corner kicks through his hold-up play. The forward nearly found the back of the net in the 71st minute, but Spangenberg covered the shot with a diving save.
 
The pressure once again paid off in the final minutes of the match when a take-down in the box led to a Matt Fondy penalty-kick conversion. The forward put away his fifth NASL goal of the year to lock in a point for the home team.

NORTH CAROLINA FC ACQUIRES JONATHAN GLENN, DANNY BARROW VIA TRADE WITH JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC FOR BRIAN SHRIVER

CARY, N.C. (July 28, 2017) – North Carolina FC has traded veteran forward Brian Shriver to Jacksonville Armada FC in exchange for Trinidadian target forward Jonathan Glenn and Welsh youth standout Danny Barrow. Per club policy, no further details on the transaction have been released.
 
“We need to improve in the Fall [Season] if we’re going to get into the playoffs,” said NCFC Head Coach Colin Clarke. “It’s an opportunity to add two good players and strengthen our depth in two positions. We’re excited to have both here. It will liven up our squad and be good to have competition for places. I think that’s certainly something both players will bring.”
 
Shriver departs from his second stint with North Carolina FC as the club’s all-time leading goal scorer with 35 goals (27 NASL, 8 U.S. Open Cup). The 29-year-old forward saw limited action as a substitute this season, appearing in nine contests, logging 333 minutes, and scoring one goal in U.S. Open Cup play.
 
Barrow spent the last season and a half as a reserve midfielder for Jacksonville. The young winger hails from Braunton, England, and came up through the Welsh Youth National Team system. Barrow has played with various clubs in the English professional system, including Plymouth Argyle FC, West Bromwich Albion, Bath City FC and Truro City FC.
 
In 2015, Barrow had trials with Sporting Kansas City and Jacksonville Armada before signing with Jacksonville in December. Barrow made 16 appearances and started eight contests, while logging 710 minutes during his time with the Armada.
 
“Danny is an exciting young talent,” said Clarke. “He’s very good with ball and taking people on. I think there’s an opportunity for him to get minutes here and develop as a player.”
 
Glenn, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, joins NCFC after playing the Spring Season as Jacksonville’s No. 9. The striker started seven matches and logged one goal. Prior to his stint in Jacksonville, The Trinidadian played for Breiðablik and IBV in Iceland from 2014-16 where he tallied 25 goals during three seasons. Glenn has also appeared in six matches for the Trinidad and Tobago National Team and helped lead his country to the Caribbean Cup final in 2014.
 
He attended NCAA Division II school Saint Leo University where he scored 41 goals in 57 appearances. The forward spent the early stages of his playing career with the Panama City Pirates and the Vermont Voltage of the Premier Development League and Jacksonville United (now Jacksonville Armada U-23) of the National Premier Soccer League.

“Jonathan is a target center forward, which is another position that we felt we needed to strengthen,” added Clarke. “He’s a proven goal scorer that has played in Europe as well as in our league.”

“Danny is an exciting young talent,” said Clarke. “He’s very good with ball and taking people on. I think there’s an opportunity for him to get minutes here and develop as a player.”
 
Glenn, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, joins NCFC after playing the Spring Season as Jacksonville’s No. 9. The striker started seven matches and logged one goal. Prior to his stint in Jacksonville, The Trinidadian played for Breiðablik and IBV in Iceland from 2014-16 where he tallied 25 goals during three seasons. Glenn has also appeared in six matches for the Trinidad and Tobago National Team and helped lead his country to the Caribbean Cup final in 2014.
 
He attended NCAA Division II school Saint Leo University where he scored 41 goals in 57 appearances. The forward spent the early stages of his playing career with the Panama City Pirates and the Vermont Voltage of the Premier Development League and Jacksonville United (now Jacksonville Armada U-23) of the National Premier Soccer League.

“Jonathan is a target center forward, which is another position that we felt we needed to strengthen,” added Clarke. “He’s a proven goal scorer that has played in Europe as well as in our league.”

North Carolina is currently in fifth place in the NASL table halfway through the 2017 season. The club is just three points back from third place and five points from second place. Miami FC clinched a playoff spot after winning the NASL Spring Season Championship. NCFC will vie for three remaining playoff spots during the final half of the season.
 
NCFC has made a push to improve its roster. So far, the club has added former Capital Area RailHawks Academy standout D.J. Taylor and Jacksonville Armada players Jonathan Glenn and Danny Barrow. Taylor, a right back, will add to the team’s backline depth. Glenn and Barrow come to NCFC via a trade with Jacksonville for Brian Shriver. Barrow is a pacey winger that can also play in the No. 10 role, while Glenn is a proven scorer and will add needed depth as a target forward.
 
The club will take on a familiar foe in Puerto Rico FC. NCFC has owned the matchup in 2017, winning all three contests so far. FORMER ACADEMY STANDOUT D.J. TAYLOR RETURNS HOME

Taylor to a professional contract for the remainder of the 2017 NASL season, pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per club policy, further details on the deal were not released.
 
“D.J. is someone we’ve known about for some time,” said NCFC Head Coach Colin Clarke. “He’s come back home now and we’re glad to say he’s chosen this place to mature, grow and develop as a player. Like you’ve seen in the game against Swansea City, he’s a kid with a lot of talent and we’re delighted to have him. It’s what we’re all about, having our local players come up through NCFC Youth with a pathway to the professional ranks.”
 
Taylor becomes just the second former academy member to sign a professional contract with the first team, joining Dre Fortune. He most recently started in North Carolina FC’s international exhibition against Swansea City AFC as a guest player. The speedy right back showcased his two-way ability in the match, defending well and getting into NCFC’s attack from the flanks.
 
“It’s amazing to be back in my hometown, representing my city that I've grown up with and I’m excited to play this season with NCFC,” said Taylor. “I’m going to work hard, and give everything I have into the game and to the team.”

CARY, N.C. (July 25, 2017) – North Carolina FC announced today that it has extended the contract of midfielder Lance Laing to include an option for next season, keeping the prolific goal-scorer in North Carolina through 2018.
 
“When Lance came in at the start of the year, we knew a lot about him and had seen what he’d done over the years. However, there was still some unknown there,” said NCFC Head Coach Colin Clarke. “Lance has proven over the first half of the season that he still has what it takes. CARY, N.C. (July 22, 2017) – On another thrilling night at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park, North Carolina FC held the English Premier League’s Swansea City AFC to a 0-0 draw. NCFC improves to 0W-2D-0L all time against Premier League competition.

"I’m pleased with how they did," said head coach Colin Clarke. "They put us under a lot of pressure, we withstood some and made some big saves. We had our moments and a couple of very good chances, but overall, I’m delighted with how the evening went. We got some minutes for the young kids, and were able to see some of them for the first time. I was very pleased.

"I think it’s a great celebration for us as a club to bring another Premier League team in two years in a row. Its great for our fans to see and great for our players to play against – just to learn from and watch them."

In another special night for the club, North Carolina opted for a youthful lineup, starting four players under 23 years old. The young side fared well against Swansea’s preseason roster and produced some of its best attacking moments of the first half with combination play between its young talent.
 
In the 19th minute, Dre Fortune provided NCFC with a golden opportunity. The young midfielder was played in behind the defense by Matt Fondy, but Fortune’s effort was saved in the one-on-one duel by Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
 
North Carolina FC used an inspired defensive effort from its backline to keep the Swans from scoring early. Despite the pressure from the visitors, NCFC held its clean sheet through the opening half.
 
Clarke subbed on eight new faces at the break, while Swansea opted for 10 fresh substitutes near the hour mark.
 
Macklin Robinson, one of NCFC’s halftime substitutes, produced two world-class saves in the second half to help keep the clean sheet for NCFC. In the 56th minute, he came up with an amazing diving save to deny Leroy Fer from point blank range. He came up big again in the 73rd minute, denying Oli McBurnie’s header from inside the box.
 
The closing stages of the match produced an end-to-end game, as NCFC and Swansea traded chances at goal. Brad Ruhaak provided a diving block to deny Jefferson Montero in the 83rd minute. Two minutes later, NCFC had its chance, as Jon Orlando found space in the box. However, Orlando’s shot was blocked away by defender Mike Van Der Horn.
 
Van Dor Horn produced a final attacking chance for Swansea, but his header was saved by Matias Reynares in the 90th minute. The two teams played out the remaining stoppage time without a goal, as NCFC clinched a draw over the Premier League opponent.

WHATS HAPPENING? NORTH CAROLINA FC VS. SWANSEA CITY

North Carolina FC will host Swansea City of the Premier League, England’s top tier of soccer, in a marque international exhibition on Saturday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.

Here is everything you need to know to maximize your game day experience

 

Parking and Transportation:

There will be a $10 per car parking charge this match Parking lots will open at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to tailgate before the match.

The Red & Blue Express will be up and running for the Swansea match. The R&B Express is a free bus service that provides music, wifi and free Lonerider beer for fans on their way to Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park from downtown Raleigh and Durham. Fans can keep up with the bus route via Twitter.

 

Gate and Sponsor Info:

Gates will open at 6:30 p.m.

Fans will be granted access into the stadium through three entrances: Main gate, Northwest gate, and Southeast gate

Several NCFC sponsors will be located outside of the main gate for a carnival-like atmosphere that includes free giveaways, games, and activities. Those sponsors include: Circle K, Latino Community Auto Center, Leith Volkswagen, Advance Auto Parts, and Carolina Ale House.

NC Lottery will be set up just inside the main gate and O2 Fitness will be located in the Family Zone.

 

Concessions and Entertainment:

Backyard Bistro will be offering a special of Fish & Chips with a fountain drink for only $12

The Soccer Shot inflatable will be located just inside the Northwest gate. Fans of all ages are encouraged to test their soccer skills against the NCFC Soccer Shot.

There will be two official NCFC merchandise stands on the Sahlen’s Stadium concourse. There will be the main merchandise stand located just inside the main gate and the merchandise tent will be set up just inside the Northwest gate.
