CARY, N.C. (May 13, 2024) — North Carolina FC host Loudoun United FC for a midweek USL Championship regular season match at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 14, at WakeMed Soccer Park. Tickets are available here.
North Carolina FC enter the midweek meeting in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with seven points from nine games (1-4-4), while Loudoun sit 10th with eight points from nine games (2-5-2). Loudoun won the first meeting between the two at Segra Field, 3-1.
NCFC enter the match following a 2-1 extra time loss against reigning USL Championship winner Phoenix Rising FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32.
Defender Justin Malou scored a flying backheel off a Louis Perez corner in the 80’ to force extra time, but Phoenix was able to find a winner in the 110’ of the physical, hard-fought match. Led by Oalex Anderson’s six shots, NCFC outhsot Phoenix 20-14.
Scouting Loudoun United
Loudoun United are entering the midweek contest on short rest after a 2-0 home loss to El Paso Locomotive FC in a cross-conference Friday showdown. El Paso scored in the first minute of the match and added an insurance goal in the 40’ to seal the deal.
Loudoun have picked up a pair of U.S. Open Cup wins, advancing to the Round of 16 with a win over Orange County SC, in recent weeks, but are winless in league play since a 2-1 win over Memphis 901 FC on April 13.
With anther league game on the weekend and a trip to LAFC in the Open Cup Round of 16 the following Tuesday, Loudoun are in the midst of a congested May schedule.
Kalil ElMedkhar led the way for Loudoun in the first meeting at Segra Field, scoring the opening goal and assisting Zach Ryan’s second-half game winner. ElMedkhar has one goal and two assists on the season.
Ryan has been Loudoun’s go-to goal scorer this season with a team-leading three goals, but the forward can also create with one assist to his name and the second most chances created for Loudoun this season. Abdellatif Aboukoura and Wesley Leggett have each also popped up with multiple goals for Loudoun this season.
Florian Valot has been an important gear in the attack with one goal, two assists and a team-leading 12 chances created. Valot, along with Drew Skundrich and Tommy McCabe, make up an experienced trio for Loudoun in the middle of the park that can control the tempo of a game.
Hugo Faroux has played every minute in net for Loudoun this season, making 21 saves and allowing 15 goals.
