CARY, N.C. (August 28, 2023) – The historic friendly at WakeMed Soccer Park featuring Liga MX clubs Rayados de Monterrey and Atlético de San Luis has been postponed, as announced by the North Carolina Football Club Monday. The match will now take place on Friday, March 22, 2024, instead of the originally scheduled September 8 of this year.
Rayados reached the consolation match of the 2023 Leagues Cup, playing seven matches in the tournament for a fourth-place finish out of 45 participants. The bevy of added matches and minutes has led to unforeseen injuries and roster concerns, creating conflict with the intended match day in September. All three clubs have agreed to instead play the friendly during the FIFA window in March of 2024.
“While disappointed to postpone this exciting, historic match, we appreciate Monterrey’s concern for the health and safety of their players and we’re grateful for San Luis’ cooperation in finding a new window to bring this event to our community. Interest in the match has already been extremely high throughout our region and we hope that it will continue with the new date in March. We remain committed to finding opportunities to bring the global game to our fans,” said NCFC vice president Jorge Acuna.
Fans who purchased tickets prior to August 29, 2023, will automatically have their tickets transferred to the match day in March but can opt for a full refund through Ticketmaster, if desired. Tickets bought on or after August 29, 2023, will be for the new date and will follow all Ticketmaster purchase policies.
