CARY, N.C. (July 28, 2023) – North Carolina FC today announces the acquisition of goalkeeper Brooks Thompson. The 21-year-old joins NCFC on loan from Philadelphia Union II of MLS Next Pro for an agreed upon fee and will be with the club for the rest of the 2023 season.
The Jefferson, Indiana native has experience with MLS Next Pro and USL Championship clubs. Thompson began his career in the USL with Sporting Kansas City II for three years and was the youngest professional signing for the club. He made 12 appearances between Swope Park and KCII in USL Championship, making 41 saves while allowing 22 goals.
Thompson signed with Philadelphia Union II prior to their inaugural season In March of 2022. In two seasons with the club, he made 14 appearances (13 starts) and racked up 57 saves with one clean sheet.
“I am excited to add Brooks to our goalkeeping group for the remainder of this year. He is a talented young goalkeeper with experience from Philadelphia Union and Sporting Kansas City. We also like that he has experience in USL Championship and MLSNP over the last several years. I’m looking forward to seeing him compete here at North Carolina FC,” said North Carolina FC head coach John Bradford.
Thompson’s arrival brings the goalkeeper count to four alongside Nicholas Holliday, Tor Saunders, Trevor Mulqueen and Marzuq Puckerin.
