CARY, N.C. (May 3, 2023) – North Carolina FC will enter a team, ‘North Carolina FC Legends’ in the $1 Million, winner-take-all The Soccer Tournament (TST) this Summer. The first year 7v7 tournament, from the creators of The Basketball Tournament, will take place at WakeMed Soccer Park in June.
The team will be coached by longtime Carolina RailHawks and NCFC Assistant Coach Dewan Bader. Carolina RailHawks and North Carolina FC fan favorites Austin da Luz, Nazmi Albadawi and Nic Platter have all signed on to play. The rest of the North Carolina FC Legends roster will be announced throughout the coming weeks ahead of the tournament.
North Carolina FC joins a long list of professional soccer clubs, soccer stars, and celebrities to host teams at the event. Big names coming to the Triangle this summer include Borussia Dortmund, a United States women’s team led by Heather O’Reilly and Mia Hamm, West Ham United, Wrexham Red Dragons, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Team Dempsey (led by USMNT Star Clint Dempsey) and many more.
The star-studded event will feature 32 teams competing in a “World Cup style” format consisting of group play and single elimination knockout rounds in their quest for $1 million. Action begins on June 1 and culminates on Sunday, June 4, with the $1 million championship game.
