The Carolina RailHawks announced the return of former team captain and North Carolina product, Austin da Luz, ahead of Saturday’s NASL match-up against the New York Cosmos, pending USSF Approval.
“It is great to add a player with Austin’s ability to the team at this point in the season,” said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. “Austin is a player that can play in any position across the midfield. He is familiar with the team, and I am sure he will help us as we fight for a spot in The Championship.”
Austin returns to the RailHawks after completing the 2014 USL Pro Season with Orlando City SC. While in Orlando, he made a total of 18 USL Pro appearances scoring five goals and completing one assist in 1,123 minutes.
During his two seasons with the RailHawks (2012-2013), da Luz accumulated 2,658 minutes, 6 goals, and 10 assists over 42 matches.
The Winston-Salem native had a stellar career playing for the Demon Deacons at Wake Forest University. He appeared in 80 matches scoring 13 goals while also having 39 assists. Austin, was part of the highly successful team that went to four Final Fours including a NCAA National Championship in 2007. da Luz would go-on to be selected as the 14th overall pick of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by the New ork Red Bulls.
da Luz joined the RailHawks training camp this week and will be available to play upon USSF approval.
