Soccer is the fastest-growing sport in the Triangle and has undoubtedly taken its place as a major sport in our country. It arguably represents the only opportunity to add another major league sports team in the Triangle.
North Carolina Football Club, the state’s top professional soccer organization, is elevating the level of professional soccer in our area. New, local ownership is aggressively pursuing a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise for the pro men’s team (North Carolina FC). In addition, a professional women’s soccer team (NWSL), was added at the start of the 2017 season. Furthermore, the club launched its plans to build a new 22,000-seat stadium in downtown Raleigh.
Soccer will elevate the Triangle’s global appeal. Moreover, it represents a powerful platform to link brands to desirable customer segments. The North Carolina Football Club’s fanbase is the most diverse among Triangle professional and collegiate sports organizations with deep support from three of the most valuable market segments: soccer families, Millennials, and Hispanics.
