CARY, N.C. (July 27, 2018) – North Carolina FC is set for another important home game on Saturday, July 28, welcoming the Pittsburgh Riverhounds to Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The two teams met earlier this month in Pittsburgh, with the Riverhounds coming away with the victory.
Pittsburgh is one of the most consistent teams in the Eastern Conference, earning points in all but two matches thus far. Defense leads the way for the visitors, who have conceded just eight goals through the first 18 matches of the season. The team leads the league in both goals allowed and clean sheets.
The Riverhounds attack is led by forward Neco Brett, who is tied for third in the Eastern Conference with eight goals on the season. Pittsburgh midfielder and team captain Kevin Kerr has been the team’s most efficient facilitator, creating a team-high 36 chances while dishing out four assists. Kerr, in his sixth season in Pittsburgh, has played more minutes than anyone in the history of the club and ranks near the top in a variety of other statistical categories.
NCFC enters the match with plenty of momentum, picking up points in six of its last eight matches. The team is unbeaten in its last four home games, most recently securing a 3-1 victory over Toronto FC II last weekend. Firmly in the second half of the season, each match is important for NCFC to keep earning points to make a move up the table. Right now, NCFC sits just four points away from a playoff spot.
Last Time Out:
NCFC began its home stand with an important victory over Toronto FC II. After falling behind early in the match, NCFC responded with three unanswered goals to secure the 3-1 victory and remain unbeaten in the team’s last four home matches.
Players to Watch:
#7 Christiano François
A dangerous attacking option, François has already showcased his abilities to NCFC, scoring on the side in the last meeting. The 25-year-old Haitian forward is up to two goals and one assist in 2018. François is in his first season with Pittsburgh, but has plenty of experience with stints at Rochester Rhinos and the Richmond Kickers.
#6 Austin da Luz
After scoring a goal in the team’s last match against Toronto, da Luz now has three goals and one assist on the season. He has played in all but one USL match this season, moving him into third in the club’s all-time history for games played. NCFC’s co-captain continues to be a leader in the midfield in his fifth season with the club.
Coming Up Next:
