NC Courage Academy Kicks Off 2017 Season

Sep 11, 2017

After being recognized at halftime of the NC Courage match on Saturday, the NC Courage Development Academy teams kicked off their inaugural season on Sunday, Sept. 10 at WRAL Soccer Park in Raleigh against the Charlotte Soccer Academy. The day ended with two wins and two losses for the Courage side, and director Sean Nahas is encouraged by the weekend results.

"This weekend’s games have been many months in the making,” Nahas said. “Players, families, and staff have placed a lot of time and effort into having this first weekend be a success. We couldn't be happier with the work the players have exhibited within training and now within our games. We have stressed the importance of development over results and that is something we will continue to talk about. We don't talk about winning or losing. We continue to trust the process and create the most professional environment for our players"

There were five different goal scorers on Sunday. Ayana Parker of the U14s, Alexandra Kerr of the U16/17s, plus Haleigh Stackpole (2), Grace Wagner and Mattie Murphy of the U18/19s each found the back of the net, while goalkeepers Abby Gundy and Olivia Gallert together posted a shutout for the U14s.
