Fast Facts:
- North Carolina FC continues its 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign against the Houston Dynamo on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
- Houston’s overall Open Cup record is 10-10. The team is 0-1 against NASL squads with a 1-0 defeat to the San Antonio Scorpions in 2012.
- The Dynamo are currently third in the MLS Western Conference standings with 23 points
- Andrew Wenger, Jalil Anibaba and Tyler Deric all played for local ACC schools during their NCAA careers. Wenger was a Blue Devil and played alongside Christian Ibeagha, while facing off against Austin da Luz at Wake Forest and Nazmi Albadawi at NC State. Anibaba and Deric played at UNC Chapel Hill with Billy Schuler and Brian Shriver, respectively.
- Deric was loaned to NCFC in 2014, and appeared in a preseason friendly for the club against Toluca.
- WakeMed Soccer Park has hosted a few of current Dynamo players in previous years. Erick “El Cubo” Torres, A.J. DeLaGarza and Leonardo were all part of previous losing MLS sides to NCFC. Torres was on loan with Chivas USA when it fell in 2014 and DeLaGarza and Leonardo were both part of LA Galaxy sides that left Cary with losses from 2012-14.
- Jon Orlando and A.J. DeLaGarza are perhaps two of the most connected players between the teams. Orlando and DeLaGarza grew up playing together in Maryland for the DC United Academy and various other youth teams before two eventually went their own ways. Now the duo is crossing paths again in professional soccer.
