May 18, 2017

CARY, N.C. (May 18, 2017) – The MLS’s Houston Dynamo could be faced with the tough task of traveling to Cary for a U.S. Open Cup match against North Carolina FC.
In a draw to determine fourth-round opponents and hosting scenarios, the winner of the third-round match between NCFC and the Charlotte Independence has won the right to host the Houston Dynamo.
NCFC has advanced to face MLS opponents in the Open Cup in four of the last five years and has gone on to defeat MLS sides six times in the tournament, including back-to-back-to-back wins over the LA Galaxy from 2012-14.
NCFC will play for the right to host the Houston Dynamo in a match against the Charlotte Independence on Wednesday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
North Carolina’s two professional soccer teams have met each other in the Open Cup each of the last two seasons. Charlotte won the first matchup 1-0 in 2015 and NCFC claimed a 5-0 win last season.
