Eighteen Capital Area RailHawks Academy players signed national letters of intent on February 1 at a CASL Signing Day event in Raleigh. Eleven different collegiate programs were represented in this year’s signing class.
The Capital Area RailHawks Academy is a partnership between North Carolina FC and Capital Area Soccer League designed to attract the highest caliber players and coaches possible, regardless of their previous club affiliations, and to continuously identify and develop talent in the Triangle. The program has had over 70 players commit to play collegiate soccer since 2013.
“Over the last four years, the relationship with the academy program and the first team has been fantastic in terms of the interactions that the players have from training sessions to friendlies we can play in,” said Capital Area RailHawks Academy Director John Bradford. “It gives the kids a tangible pathway that they can see themselves going down in the years to come.”
Several Capital Area RailHawks Academy players have been given the opportunity to train and play with North Carolina FC. Of the 18 players who signed letters of intent, four have had experience with the first team.
Jose Morales, Jr. was signed to an amateur contract with the club for the 2016 season. Morales along with Lucas Del Rosario, Manny Perez and Max Groover were on the Carolina RailHawks roster when the team played English Premier League’s West Ham United on July 12, 2016.
“Being able to learn from the older guys is great,” said Morales. “They helped me become a better player and a better person.”
