Greg Shields enters his fifth season as an assistant coach for North Carolina FC. After the Scottish defender had a season-ending surgery in 2011, he returned to the team in 2012 to play his final season with the club. Soon after, he became one of Colin Clarke’s assistant coaches. While on the team, Shields logged 3,688 minutes in 44 matches for the RailHawks.
Shields joined the then RailHawks after having played for Gairdoch United boys club, Dunfermline Athletic, Charlton Athletic, Walsall FC, Kilmarnock, Partick Thistle and Glasgow Rangers. He also made two National Team appearances with Scotland’s U-21 team in 1996.
